The application process for the NIHR HCP Internship Programme consists of completing an online application form. Once an application has been completed it will then be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers, who score the application using the NIHR scoring system. A selection panel then reviews the scores and feedback and makes the final decision
Reviewers and panel members are from across the region and include professionals from groups that are often underrepresented, such as research delivery, social work, and primary care.
Within the application form applicants will be asked to provide the following:
- A 300 word maximum personal development statement
- A 500 word maximum statement about the proposed activities and planned outcomes
- A 200 word maximum statement about the wider benefit of your internship
- A 200 word maximum statement about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
- A proposed finance plan for the internship

Please note that the first teaching day of the internship programme will be the 28th September 2026. All interns will have to attend this date.
